Bike Routes: Rush of Energy EP
As the summer of 2024 winds down, it just delivered alternative rock fans an EP to drive around on a hot summer night with the windows down. “Driving” is the central theme of this EP with several of the songs discussing car time. Bike Routes is David Lawerence Osterhout. His lyrics are poetry in motion, accompanied by intricate instrument work with melodic overtones. I can’t get enough of this album; songs like “Small Victories” and “Rush of Energy” remind us of the fragile state of the human experience and that we should enjoy ourselves because we’re gonna die anyway. I love the way he talks about his family, especially his father, the goodness he sees in his father and how gentle he is with nature. I really connected to this idea. In “World Apart” David asks us “What’s wrong with a little rebellion?” and shares his love for his dog. So relatable… I wish more artist were making music with this deep of themes intertwined. While this EP is only 6 songs and 18 minutes, it’s one of the best listens I’ve had this year. Hopefully Bike Routes won’t wait long to give us more music!
